DimMak Clothing Collection

Last time I was in Las vegas at the Pool Tradeshow I had the chance to check out some of the samples for the new DimMak clothing line. More recently I saw the new Sounds video for "Tommy the Beat" that featured Steve Aoki, AKA Kid Millionaire of DimMak sporting one of their new hoodies. After a couple emails trying to find out where to get my hands on one I discovered DimMak doesn't yet have an online store, but they do have a site showcasing their collection. And should soon have the collection available at Line Showroom. I want one now!

Remix Rush: Heartbeats

With dance-rock and electro-house being as big as it is right now it's no surprise how many remixes Swedish duo The Knife have released. Remixers for The Knife have ranged from Mylo to Rex the Dog. A recent remix I found is of The Knife's single "Heartbeats", a track the band is probably most well known for. The original is a heartfelt anthem good for both the dance floor or the bedroom. However, this version of the track is much more mellow and dreamy. As far as I have been able to find out this rework was done by The Knife themselves for showcase done on them by BBC's OneMusic. If anyone has more info on the track please let me know. In the meantime I am keeping this remix on repeat.

TXTual healing

TXTual Healing is a project by Paul Notzold that allows an audience to interact with large speech bubbles projected on buildings and public spaces via text message. The viewer is given a number to send their message to, and then the text is displayed in the projected bubble. Paul has designed the project to explore public vs. private spaces and the dialogue of our private thoughts. What a cool idea, I would love to see a viewing of this.

SKWAK All Over the Place

Something I have struggled with for a long time as an artist is having one distinct style that people can recognize. I am rather schizophrenic when it comes to design, and I admire those artists who have a very easily recognized styles. You could see a Shepard Fairey, Bansky, Neckface or Kozyndan piece from a mile away and recognize the style. Skwak is an artist who I have been seeing all over the place lately and he most definitely falls into this catagory. You may recognize that outlandish style from the load of work he has done for Beautiful Decay. Or more recently some favorite tees of mine he has done for Radioactive and Owl Movement.

Yukawa Shione

I don't know a lot about Yukawa Shione, but I thought that I should let you guys know about her as well. I was able to see one of her videos through a friend's online journal and I was extremely pleased because of the fun melodies and cute dancing. She also has a very different singing voice because I learned from a research I did that she was a soprano in a popular Tokyo Choir.

The Amazing Work of Fatoe

Fatoe's work is so awesome it makes me want to puke. Including amazing watercolor/vector artwork, magazine layouts, web graphics and hand-drawn illustration, Mike Orduña has a portfolio that deserves massive amounts of praise. His distinct style has been worthy of such clients like Tank Theory, Sony CONNECT, Linkin Park and DIGIT Magazine. Take a look at his portfolio and be prepared to spend some time, it's well worth it.

Oddica Artists Collective

Looking for your standard run-of-the-mill t-shirt company? Don't read this post if you are, because Oddica is anything but that. Amazing wearable art on high-quality American Apparel tees by some of the worlds best artists, sure, Oddica has that (they even have a design done by Hydro74 who TheDopeFiend posted about last month). However, what really sets this tee company appart from the rest is the way they sell their products. Oddica uses a business model that benefits not only themselves but the artists as well. Every artist that is commissioned to create a design receives not only a $500 for each design, but they also share in 41% of the companies net annual profit along with many other bonuses. This is a company who really seems to care about the artist community, I applaud them.

The Presets VS Lenny Kravitz?!

Within the past few years it seems our friends from "down under" have emerged with a new generation of musicians. With bands like Cut Copy, Wolfmother, Architecture in Helsinki and now the super-hot electro-punks The Presets, Australia is forming a new breed genre-bending artists. The genre-bending ability of The Presets is shown no more than with one of their recent projects with Absolut Tracks and Lenny Kravitz (of all people). For the Absolut Tracks project Lenny has teamed up with artists all over the world to produce eleven remixes of his song "Breathe" that are available absolutely free (no pun intended). I never thought I could see myself rocking-out in a club to Lenny Kravitz, thanks to The Presets it may just happen.

I Love Computer Love

Admittedly I spend more time on Myspace than I probably should, but with 86,000,000 registered accounts I don't think I am alone. I may be a little embarrased about my Myspace addiction, but I have more recently become addicted to a community website that I have no shame in wanting to spend my time on - Computer Love. Computer Love is a online community for creatives to find like-minded people, jobs, news and a lot more about the world's creative industry. The site also provides a place to upload and share your portfolio and work completely free. The design and layout is executed perfectly and I am sure will only get better, if getting better than perfect is possible.

Brian Eno & David Byrne Re-Release

With the advancement of the personal computer virtually anyone has the ability to learn how to produce music. With that thought in mind, the Re-release of Brian Eno & David Byrne's album My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts has made all of the multitracks for two of the album's songs available for download. After downloading the multitracks, you can remix and cut-up the songs any way you like. Then upload your tracks so listeners can vote and rate your remix. I love the idea of getting fans and other artists involved with your albums. And who knows, if your lucky you could turn out like Dangermouse did after "The Grey Album".

Fat Jon+Styrofoam

I love when artists are not afraid to step out of their boundries and push their limits a bit. Electronic musician Styrofoam is well known for his glitchy beats and indietronic sound, but has shown that he is not afraid to merge into other genres and styles of production. Working with other artists such as Ben Gibbard, American Anolog Set, Lali Puna and even Jimmy Eat World, Styrofoam has proved his versatility. Such is the case with his most recent endeavor with experimental hip-hop artist Fat Jon (not to be confused with Fat Joe). The two have combined forces and will be releasing a full length album on Morr Music, due out in October of this year. Have a listen to the first little taste of their sound at their Myspace Page.

The Music Gremlin

I can't count how many times a friend of mine, being a newcomer the the iPod, has asked me to transfer songs from my iPod to theirs. I also know many people who have purchased iPods without having a personal computer of their own, making it difficult to transfer their CDs and purchasing music to transfer to their iPod. For someone who wants the freedom of being able to download music directly to their music player, the answer is the MusicGremlin. This handy little MP3 player gives you the ease of downloading songs from their online store directly to the player with its WI-FI connection, skipping the personal computer part altogether. You can purchase songs for 99 cent individually, or pay $15 per month and download songs until the 8GB hard drive is full. The player's other great feature is that you can trade songs and playlists wirelessly with other MusicGremlin owners, provided they also have the monthly service.

Zach Slow & Lady SOV

Money may not be able to buy love, but it sure does help at times. Take the case of a dude by the name of Zach Slow for example. Just over a month ago Zach started a website called Help Me Get Random with Lady Sovereign. The site was started to raise enough money to take out the UK hottie emcee Lady Sovereign. The goal was $10,000, and he only had one month before SOV's performance in his town of San Francisco. I doubted the chances of ten grand being raised, and then once he surprisingly did raise the money I thought the site may be a hoax. That was until today when I recieved and email from Zach today in regards to a quick link I posted on my personal site about his validity. He directed me towards his journal where he has posted photos of the unforgettable night out with Lady SOV proving it really went down. So I dedicate this post to Zach and officially apologize for having doubted you. I hope things work out with you and the Lady, and just so you know I am extremely jealous.

Threadless, Adding Quality to Quantity?

I have been complaining for over a year now about the decline in quality of tees and designs at Threadless. However, with the launch of their new website they are offering what they call "Threadless Select" tees that are some of the best designs I have seen printed. With artwork by NoPattern, Aiko and Rinzen the designs immediately stood out to me. Unlike their regular tees that are printed on Fruit of the Loom (one of the main reasons I stopped buying from Threadless), the "Threadless Select" tees are printed on American Apparel. Of course the quality does not come without the cost, "Selects" are priced more than usual at $25 which is still not bad. If you are not willing to pay the extra check out the 3 day sale going on now on a bunch new tees just printed. Oh ya, and I will let you in on a little tip. If you wear a small to medium sized American Apparel tee in guys and don't like the fit of Fruit of the Loom, try the Large to Extra Large girl tee. They print all their girl tees on American Apparel.

La La CD Trading

Got a bunch of CDs laying around that you no longer want? La La could be the answer for you. La La is an online CD trading system that allows you to list the CDs you have and want, and trade with other members. They provide you with their shipping kits with prepaid postage so you never pay to ship your CD's. If you recieve a CD from your want list La La charges you a fee of $1 and the shipping cost, and the number of CD's you recieve depends on how many you send. La La basically just plays the middle man by putting you in touch with thousands of people who want your music, and have music you want.

Fire Eye'd Boy Video

One of my favorite songs from Broken Social Scene's self-titled sophomore release is Fire Eye'd Boy. I'm so glad that the video is out already but I'm kinda disappointed because there's a lot of "talking" going on in the video. I would have rather have them focus on the song through the whole video because it's such a great tune. But I can't complain. It's a humorous video and seeing the group rock out in old-school gym attire is priceless. Enjoy!

Remix Rush: Ageless Beauty

Summer is finally here, and with the warm weather comes patio chilling, barbeques and laying in the shady grass zoned out to tunes on your iPod. This Remix Rush's particular track is perfect for all the activities listed. The song is originally done by Arts & Crafts artists Stars, and brilliantly remixed by label-mates The Most Serene Republic. The remixed version has a more layed-back strummy guitar sound, but manages to keep the fun bounciness of the original.

Juxtapoz Feeds the Need

Yes, there is no doubt about it, I am an admitted 'zine fiend. I simply love flipping the glossy pages of my favorite monthly publications. Yesterday another magazine was added to my favorites list. I picked up an issue of Juxtopoz for the first time. I had noticed on the newsstand before, but surprisingly had never actually read it. Juxtapoz is a magazine featuring the up-and-coming, as well as the already highly-respected artists throughout the world. From Shepard Fairey's street art in L.A. to Yumiko Kayukawa's cutesy Japanese pop art, Juxtapoz has it covered.
