Naked & Angry Wallpaper

Well SkinnyCorp has done it again. The same people who brought us Threadless, 15 Megs of Fame, and Extratasty, have now released the Naked & Angry wallpaper series. Designs are submitted by users and then voted upon by fellow members. The designs with the most votes are then hand printed and ready to be purchased and hung on your wall. The 50 square foot rolls are $60 each and there are currently five different designs, Field of Daisies being my personal favorite.

Girl Talk-Night Ripper

Looking for a good soundtrack for that big ol' "end of summer bash" you are throwing for that one last chance at getting a peice of ass before fall is here? I would suggest Night Ripper by Girl Talk. This insane mix mashes-up over 200 different songs into just over a half-hour of madness. Who ever thought mixing The Pixies and Diddy, or PM Dawn and the Ying Yang Twins would make such dancable music. Trust me, it's not as corny as it sounds. This album is sure to get the peeps on the dancefloor, and will please likers of all genres.

Muji Cardboard Speakers

Forget those overpriced iPod speakers with all the fancy-shmancy bells and whistles. When traveling all I really want is some speakers that are very portable, and sound decent. The MUJI cardboard speakers are just that. The cardboard boxes make for a very lightweight, compact speaker. And at $42 a pair, the price is great too. I mean when traveling it's too easy to lose stuff, and the less expensive, the less you worry. Not to mention they just look cool.

Shalgo Wallets

I know, I know, duct tape wallets are like "so 3 years ago". Well, that is until you see the wallets Shalgo puts out. They are taking the whole duct tape "thing" to a whole new level. The part Dutch, part American married couple started Shalgo in 2003, and are now worldwide. With products in stores throughout the U.S., Canada, Italy and Japan. Shalgo makes more than just wallets too, they also have a full line of iPod jakets as well.

Streetr

With the invent of Flickr came not only an amazing way to share your personal photos, but it also gave hundreds of small communities of people who photo specific types of art and photography a way to unite. Streetr is a website that collects streetart photos from Flickr, and makes it possible for you to browse and vote on the works of art. Think of it as HOT or NOT + Flickr + streetart = a beautifully designed website for graffheadz who like to browse pretty pictures. And for those of us on Macs they even have an OSX widget you can install on your Dashboard.

Spotlight: Le Castle Vania Disco

For the past week I have had this song stuck in my head making me want to dance, The Le Castle Vania Disco Remix of Snowden's Black Eyes, reworked by DJ DJ Dylan. Le Castle Vania Disco is a side project of the DJ/Producer/Vocalist from Atlanta. Making ultra dance-friendly rock remixes similar to what you might here from Phones or MSTRKRFT, DJ DJ Dylan has got a few really nice tracks under his belt. And being at the young age of 23, be sure to expect a lot more from this kid.

The track is available for download Le Castle Vania Disco's Myspace page.

Remix Rush: Psykos

Here's a little remix that's perfect for summer fun. It comes from Swedish duo Lo-Fi-Fnk (pronounced funk, not fink) who are currently touring with Hot Chip in Germany. The original, done by fellow Swede Karin Strom, is entitled Psykos. I can't say I like the original all that much, perhaps because it's in swedish and I can't understand a word she's saying, but with the remix Lo-Fi-Fnk has put together it doesn't matter. It's a super-upbeat electro-pop song that anyone can dig. I am looking forward to see what they have put together for their debut album, Boylife dropping at the end of this month.

The Designers Mixtape

In one of the new HP Notebook ads (which are all done very well by the way), master producer Pharrell says "art is like music for your eyes", I completely agree. Musicians tend to have a keen eye for art, and artists for music. That's why I thing The Designers Mixtape is such a cool idea. Brought to you by Nitrocorpz Design, The Designers Mixtape asks designers from all around the globe to put together a playlist of the music that inspires them. The playlists are posted and available for listening. I think it's really interesting to see the different genres designers use for inspiration.

Pickstation

MP3 blogs have become an obsession for me lately. I could spend hours on end browsing blogs discovering new music. I recently discovered a new site that has potential to be on the top of my daily reads along with my favorite MP3 blogs. Pickstation is a place for users to listen, submit and download music that has been uploaded to to other sites. Think of it as Digg, but for music. Users can vote for songs they like, making them more popular on the site. Browsing songs is easy and the system for previewing music is awesome. The site hasn't become really poplular yet, but if it catches on it could be a great tool for discovering music.

Wonderwall Inc.

There are times when I feel like I live in a very boring country. What makes me think this? People like Masamichi Katayama and his interior design company Wonderwall. 40 year old Masamichi Katayama started Wonderwall in the year 2000 and has since worked on a crazy amount of projects for clients such as Billionaire Boys Club, BAPE, Stair and Louis Vuitton. The work of Wonderwall is unlike any I have seen. The design of the bars, boutiques and cafes seem to push the limits, making interior spaces true works of art.

Pioneers Cover By Tunng

I have never really been a huge fan of covers. There are few I have heard that actually do the original song justice, Schneider TM's Light 3000 being one of them. Another cover recently added to the list is a Bloc Party cover of Pioneers by the UK group Tunng. This cover of the song brings almost a post-folk feel to Pioneers, with plucking acoustic guitars and subtle electronic beats. I also recommend checking out Tungg's original music as well, good stuff.

Urban Counterfeiters

Back in January of this year, along with many other bloggers, I posted about Urban Outfitters blatantly ripping-off a t-shirt design of indie label Johnny Cupcakes. Well, it seems as though someone has decided to do something about situations like this. Urban Counterfeiters is a blog started to help prevent large companies from plagiarizing the work of smaller companies and indie artists. The example shown above is a design stolen by H&M, the orginal was done by Delphi, a small clothing company that is well known by designers. It's unfortunate that companies like this claim to represent a generation and community that thrives on creativity and originality. If you are aware of other circumstances similar to this, please contact Urban Counterfeiters with your information.

Lismore, Pulling Heart Strings

Yesterday while participating in a favorite past-time of mine, browsing through endless amounts of bands and musicians on Last FM, I came across Lismore. This band that sounds like it came straight off a compilation full of Morr musicians, combines glitchy clicks and clacks, lo-fi synths, shoegazy guitars and beautiful female vocals. Check out the video to favorite track of mine Tremolo.

New Toki Doki Goods

If you don't know by now, I have somewhat of a "thing" for pretty much anything Japan. So it's no big surprise that one of my favorite artists, Italy's own Simone Legno AKA Toki Doki, has the same obsession. The latest addition to Toy2R's Artists Collection series features an 8" TokiDoki Qee in addition to a bonus 2.5" Qee modeled after Simone himself. The Qee stays consistant with TokiDoki's cactus theme that he uses in many of his other designs and figures, as well as his hot nurse everyone loves so much. The release of this awesome little number is scheduled for September or October for $80, and will be limited to 500 pieces. I have got to get my hands on one of these.

Toothjuice!

Honestly, as a designer going by the name of Toothjuice, how could your shit not be cool? Josh Clancy is a designer out of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his portfolio is full of good work. Having done work for the Plain White Tees, Hawthorne Heights and Beautiful Decay, Josh seems to be making quite the name for himself. I am particularly fond of his t-shirt designs, keep up the good work.

EIO Clothing

Despite being sicker than a dog, and feeling like I just choked down a bag of razor blades, I decided to crawl from my bed and write up a post. EIO Clothing is a London based design company that has a huge collection of awesome tees for both guys and girls. Many of their designs consist of large full-frontal prints with gradients and patterns. I really dig the color selections they use, and really like the matalic they have used on a couple of their tees like this one. Time to bust out the currency converter.

Cassie VS Ratatat

When it comes to mash-ups I think they are very hit or miss, some are very good and some are very bad. Of course, I like it when someone mixes two songs from two totally different genres. This is the case of Siik's mash-up of Me and You by the incredibly sexy Cassie, and Crips by beat-masters Ratatat (who have a new album dropping on the 22nd of this month). The mash-up is done very well, and gives each song an entirely different feel. I would have to say I like it better than the originals, that's when you know a mash-up is good.
