Zuriick - Fine Threads

In many cases, when it comes to design, simplicity is key. Clothing company Zuriick demonstrates this well with their shoe collection that was recently released. I am a minimalist at heart and that's why I like these so much. The simplicity of these slip-ons, and the careful selection of color schemes is what really makes these shoes stand out to me. Zuriick has also released their fall line of t-shirts as well that is definitely worth a look.

PlayRadioPlay!

It's interesting/exciting to me to watch websites like Purevolume taking the power of music from the hands of large record labels and placing it back into the hands of the artists. If it weren't for Purevolume I, along with thousands of other fans, probabaly would never have heard of PlayRadioPlay!. And although all I really know about the artist personally is that he is young, from Fort Worth, TX and in love with a girl named Madi, I surely know that his music is good.

Domotic's I Hate You Forever

Over the weekend, while browsing around some forums on LastFM, I came across a link to the Myspace page of an artist by the name of Domotic. Upon hearing a track of his called "I Hate You Forever", I knew it would immediately be an all-time favorite of mine. Domotic, AKA Stephane Laporte, is on the French label Active Suspension, and has recently released a music video for the single, I highly recommend checking it out.

Remix Rush: Hide & Seek

In the words of my partner in crime/design Darlene Huynh, the T-Dot-O-Dot is one of a kind. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of talented people who come from Toronto, like DJ/producer Tyra from Saigon for example. This girl has musical talent seeping from every pore in her body. Aside from her turntable skills, her producing abilities are evident in her recent remix of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek". She has transformed the track from a tear-jerking a cappella into a smooth, head-bobbing dancefloor groove. I look forward to hearing more to come from Tyra.

The Original Snakes On a Plane?

Snakes on a Plane, in my opinion, was marketing genius. Never has a movie gained such a cult following using viral internet marketing. But was Snakes on a Plane the original "so-stupid-it's-funny movie"? Perhaps not. The movie Troll 2, currently rated on IMDB as the #1 worst movie of all time, has recently been gaining a huge fan-base throughout the world and is quickly becoming known as the Best Worst Movie. The movie itself is absolutely ridiculous, so ridiculously stupid that it's truly in a league of it's own when it comes to movies that are so stupid they are funny. Sixteen years after its release, Troll 2 fans of all ages are throwing Troll 2 parties and having movie screenings. The most recent screening was held in NYC this month by the Upright Citizens Brigade, where over 300 people gathered to view the movie and meet the cast. Keep your eye out for the rise of "The Best Worst Movie", the original Snakes on a Plane.

Graffiti/Not Graffiti

At what point does marking property that is not yours become graffiti? When it's detructive? When you are using paint or a marker? In the case of a British artist that goes by the name of "Moose", he is not actually marking the surfaces he uses, but creates his art by removing the dirt and dust from the surfaces. Apparently British authorities are having a hard time trying to decide what to do about Moose's art. He says he got the idea when he saw people's names written on a dusty tunnel wall, and thought he would step-it-up a level. His only tools required are a shoe brush and water.

Cut & Paste Design Contest

The Cut & Paste design contest is an amazing concept that was held for the first time in NYC last year. 8 designers selected from a pool of entries test their skills as they battle each other through 15-minute, single elimination rounds. The last designer/illustrator standing is crowned the Cut & Paste champion. This year the competition is being held in 4 cities across the country, and is currently calling all of you creatives to submit entries. So if you think you stand a chance going up against some of the world's top talent, being judged by artists including Deanne Cheuk (former Art Director at Tokion), Jeff Staple (Staple Design), Sascha Lewis (Flavorpill), Victor Newman (Freestyle Collective), Buffmonster, Eric Nakamura (Giant Robot), Melissa & Robert von Bjal (Red Car), Chuck Anderson (NoPattern), and Charles Krausz aka Emit (The Firm Graphics), then you'd better sign-up for your chance to go home with a brand spankin' new Apple MacBook.

Remix Rush: LDN

Lily Allen seems to be catching quite the buzz lately, and rightfully so. Not only is it the time for UK female artists right now, but her music is great too. Talk of her ironically cheery songs with not so cheery lyrics has spread over music blogs and sites like wildfire. One of my favorite tracks of Lily's has been remixed by Radioclit who has done many other great electro-thumping remixes. The duo turns the track from a cheery song with old-school sounding horns into a bouncy grime track and gives it a great new feel.
